Automated SAP data migration

Air France Industries and KLM Engineering & Maintenance

KLM Engineering & Maintenance used Qualibrate for mass data upload
Tasks automated

Hours Total duration
Faster than manual

The challenge

Well beyond the regulatory standards stipulated at international, European, and national level, AirFrance Industries and KLM Engineering & Maintenance places flight safety at the heart of its corporate culture.

The MRO (Maintenance Repair & Overhaul) unit offers comprehensive technical support, including line maintenance, engine overhaul, aero structure maintenance for more than 3000 aircrafts around the world.

They use SAP systems and internal ERP to carry on the daily tasks: order new components, schedule maintenance and carry it on. When AirFrance Industries and KLM Engineering & Maintenance joined they were relying on 2 different SAP instances.

The objective is to unify the systems and have more centralization. This is very challenging when it comes to manually migrate thousand of records from one system to the other.

For Engineering Orders (EO) for example when doing it manually it takes 60 seconds for one task per person. For 3000 tasks this would have meant 3000 minutes (50 hours) to finalize.

The solution

AirFrance Industries and KLM Engineering & Maintenance purchased Qualibrate for regression testing.

To overcome the challenge of data migration KLM Engineering & Maintenance decided to leverage its record and playback capabilities and automate the mass upload of the tasks from one SAP system to the other.

They selected the Engineering orders module as a pilot project to migrate a higher volume of data. If that was going to be successful, they would have extended the practice to more modules.

The outcome

To avoid manual work, KLM Engineering & Maintenance used Qualibrate to upload a set of 500 tasks per EO type for validation (3000 tasks). With Qualibrate each task would take 10 seconds, instead of 60. By doing so, they saved almost 42 hours!

The pilot project was successful, and they decided to keep using Qualibrate to migrate even higher volumes of data.

Not only: Qualibrate will be soon used to accelerate the release process by automating regression testing and support the creation of business process documentation.
